Back in 2006, I was about 7 years old. It was the summer time, and I had just finished up first grade.
I saw my older brother (who was 15 at the time) playing a game with one of his friends. I wasn't really interested in the Disney characters as I've never really liked Disney all that much, but the rest of it - the fighting, everything - was truly amazing to me.
Being at that age, I really looked up to my big brother. He's the closest sibling I have age-wise, and any video game I saw him playing was one that I automatically wanted to play (this led to me playing games such as Grand Theft Auto in kindergarten, heheh).
Unfortunately, this one game, he would not allow me to play. I'm thinking it's because he hates KHII or because he was just sick of me copying him and wanted to bug me. I don't really know, but it took a few weeks for me to finally be allowed to borrow his friend's copy of KHII.
When I finally got ahold of it, I couldn't stop playing. I grew obsessed with the series. Everything was about that series. I'd go outside and I'd be playing little Kingdom Hearts games all by myself. I'd mimic how the characters walk, talk, etc.
Right from when I first started, from when I was really confused and I wouldn't stop whining, wondering, "When do I get to play as Sora?!" and receiving the simple answer of "Soon". I didn't really think too much about my limited time with Roxas, I just wanted to play as Sora.
Anyway, I eventually had to give the game back (after my brother and that friend became friends again (not really sure what happened there, don't really care)), but by that time, I was hooked, so buying the other games wasn't very difficult.
And that's the story of how, 9 years ago, I started playing Kingdom Hearts.
